There is a movement in psychology to develop policies that articulate the ethical responsibilities of psychologists for promoting human rights and counteracting human rights violations. The purpose of this presentation is to examine the historical development and the contemporary meaning of human rights and their implications for human rights promotion and education in psychology as well as for education and training in ethics. Particular attention will be given to the issue regarding the relevance of the concept of "Persons and Peoples" in documents asserting human rights and those aiming to provide ethical guidance to psychologists.
